Stars in the Jar

I know that the stories are true —

That when things go wrong, other things get better
That between the two worlds, in an unnamed space, a story resides and belongs to no one but itself
That when the wound is nursed with frozen ice, it thaws a little; changes from stubborn to willing to talk about what happened
That someone will come for the old, dusty furniture and not just to burn it in winter
That our most persistent dream will come true if not in this universe then the adjacent
That our conscience has not atrophied in need for more evidence
That the cities will one day speak, as they do now, and the beating sea will be its heart
That whenever we reach for love inside a jar, we will find it because we have been saving it for later all along
