RIBBONS

There was once a pink satin ribbon
That danced in a slow smooth waltz
It adorned my tresses when I was five
Every evening when I set out to learn the chords.

Another blue satin ribbon
Embraced snugly the square little box
Guarding my gift for brother each Christmas
And tying my affection in a little knot.

I bought some yellow satin ribbon
For my best friend as a surprise
It brightened her flowing summer dress
And it shone in the reflection of her eyes.

Then there was a white satin ribbon
That laced my sister’s wedding dress
It fell like the waves of the sea
It was tailor-made for my little empress.

And there was a red satin ribbon
Which I tied to a letter that I wrote to you
It’s fine if your reply does not have a ribbon
It was my way of sealing the love I sent too.

P.S. After reading this poem, a friend Arjita improvised on the last stanza. I really like her version so I want to mention it here….

And there was a red satin ribbon
Which I tied to a letter that I wrote to you
It’s fine if your reply does not have a ribbon
It’s fine if you don’t feel the way I do.
