Fixing the Food Faux Pas

Prologue

I installed an SEO plugin on my WordPress site, and was deflated for a bit to see that I could do so much to ‘improve’ the key words and search engine pick ups of my blog. Then, I put aside writing this for a while. But I returned here when I reminded myself that I don’t write here for a search engine any way.

After so many years of doing it, and presently living in a world where most people don’t read, are not curious about having a conversation, I do this for myself, perhaps?

But this is not the story I came to tell. To whoever is reading, of course.

Chapter

The other evening, I took my picnic blanket, paperback book (The Railway Children by E. Nesbit), and some supermarket-bought pop corn to the park. I read the book (which is a real treat, btw), ate the pop corn, and lazed around on the grass looking at the green and the blue sky. However, I could instantly tell that the popcorn was flat, despite being made fresh, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. For days, I wanted to right that wrong, eat a better popcorn, and satiate my craving.

A few weeks earlier, I experienced a similar emotion when I ate an underwhelming pizza, which was simply soaked at the base, and the ingredients did not seem all so fresh to me. But I ate it all the same and couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. After which, in my gut, I knew I had to eat a proper pizza to wipe the memory over. And wipe it over, I did. I ordered a beautiful, tomato-and-rocket-leaves-loaded, buratta-crumbled, olive-oil-drizzled beauty.

Wipe the memory over. When it comes to food, that’s what I have been doing for the last few weeks. I want to eat the right version of food I enjoy, and until I do that i keep thinking about the wrong being done to me in the name of a dish.

Currently, while I consciously drink a lot of water to ease the water retention in my body, and eat enough fiber so the insides are working right, I am righting my food wrongs with a remarkable sense of purpose. You will not deter me, even if I have to wait for days. Wait, I shall.

So, that is how I ended up with a bag of 4700BC Peri Peri popcorn on a weekday afternoon, reading my book (once again: The Railway Children by E. Nesbit) and fixed that memory of flat, uninspired popcorn. Turns out the peri peri flavour isn’t all that great, but the pop corn was full of life and air, and a sense of buoyancy I needed in my life. It was had, and I have no regrets.

Epilogue

P.S: I made myself some mushroom and cream cheese dumplings with brown rice paper last weekend, which made me reasses my entire relationship with recipe reels/shorts. I have had it with the rice paper, but I guess that’s what I am gonna have to fix next? There was also a chia seed peppermint tea that didn’t quite turn out right. Ah! We will see.
